OpenAI Just Bought a Personal Finance App:

OpenAI has been on quite the shopping spree lately. The company just acquired Hiro Finance, an AI-powered personal finance startup. If you thought ChatGPT was only good for writing emails, think again.

Things to Know:

  • What Is Hiro: Hiro let users plug in their salary, debts, and expenses to model different financial scenarios. It launched just five months ago and is already getting absorbed.

  • The Acquihire Angle: Hiro is shutting down on April 20 and deleting all data by May 13. The whole team is joining OpenAI, making this a classic acquihire situation.

  • The Founder's Track Record: Ethan Bloch previously sold Digit, a digital savings app, for around $230 million. Hiro was reportedly his 15th project. The first 13 flopped.

  • Why OpenAI Wants This: OpenAI already markets ChatGPT to business finance teams. Adding Hiro's talent could push that agenda further or quietly power a future finance feature.

Whether OpenAI builds a dedicated financial planning product or just absorbs the talent, nobody knows yet. But two finance acquisitions in a row is not a coincidence. Something is clearly cooking on the money side of OpenAI.

Microsoft Is Testing Always-On AI Agents:

Microsoft is not content with Copilot just answering questions. It wants Copilot running 24/7, handling tasks without you asking. Your inbox might soon have a robot babysitter watching it around the clock.

Things to Know:

  • The Big Idea: Microsoft is testing OpenClaw-style agents inside 365 Copilot. The goal is an AI that handles multistep tasks all day, every day, without waiting for your input.

  • Who Is Leading This: Omar Shahine, who previously ran Microsoft Word, is heading the effort. His team's job is to build agents, not features, that work proactively on your behalf.

  • What It Could Actually Do: The always-on Copilot could monitor your Outlook inbox, suggest daily priorities, and handle action items. Role-specific agents for sales, marketing, and accounting are also being explored.

  • When We Will See It: Microsoft plans to show off this at its Build conference in June. Whether it fully delivers or just demos well is the part everyone is quietly waiting to see.

Microsoft already owns your email, calendar, documents, and meetings. Adding autonomous AI agents on top of all that is either incredibly useful or slightly terrifying. Probably both, if we are being honest.

They optimized for LLMs, not just Google.

FAQs. Comparison pages. Transparent pricing. LinkedIn presence. These aren't vanity plays. They're what gets you cited in ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude when your buyers are researching, your investors are looking, and your future hires are deciding where to work.

NVIDIA Released an Open Audio AI Model:

Most AI models are great with text and images but fall apart the moment you throw audio at them. NVIDIA and the University of Maryland just changed that. They launched Audio Flamingo Next, the open audio model nobody saw coming.

Things to Know:

  • What It Is: AF-Next is a fully open large audio-language model trained on one million hours of audio. It handles speech, music, and environmental sounds all within a single model.

  • Three Versions, One Purpose: The release comes in three variants: AF-Next-Instruct for Q&A, AF-Next-Think for reasoning, and AF-Next-Captioner for detailed audio descriptions. Pick your use case and go.

  • The Reasoning Trick: AF-Next uses Temporal Audio Chain-of-Thought, which ties each reasoning step to a specific timestamp. This makes the model far more accurate and less likely to hallucinate on long recordings.

  • The Benchmark Numbers: On LongAudioBench, AF-Next scored 73.9 against Gemini 2.5 Pro's 60.4. A smaller, open model just outperformed a closed one by a noticeable margin.

An open model beating a closed one on long audio is not something you see every day. The weights are on Hugging Face right now if you want to try it. NVIDIA and Maryland did not come to play.
