OpenAI Launches Daybreak for Cyber Defense:
OpenAI just announced "Daybreak", its new AI-powered cybersecurity program. Sam Altman wants to work with as many companies as possible to help them stay secure. It's basically Anthropic's Project Glasswing, but friendlier.
Things to Know:
What It Is: Daybreak uses OpenAI's most advanced models to scan your software for vulnerabilities. The goal is to spot risks early and make software resilient before attackers do.
How It Works: It builds a threat model of your system, maps out who and what is trusted, then digs into your actual codebase for real exploits. Then it patches them.
How It Differs From Glasswing: Anthropic's Project Glasswing launched with government panic and a locked-away "too dangerous to release" model. Daybreak skipped the drama and put a signup form right on the homepage.
Who Can Join: Anyone, really. There are two buttons on the page: "Request a vulnerability scan" and "Contact sales." Altman wants broad adoption, not a VIP-only club.
OpenAI is clearly playing the friendlier neighbor here compared to Anthropic's more alarming rollout. Cybersecurity is now an AI arms race, and both companies want a front-row seat. The difference is one knocked on the door, the other kicked it in.
Google Omni Could Shake Up AI Video:
Google hasn't said a word about it officially, but Gemini Omni is already showing up for some users. Early demos look genuinely impressive, and Google I/O 2026 is right around the corner. Something big is coming.

What to Expect Next: Google I/O 2026 kicks off May 19, and this is almost certainly getting a proper reveal. Omni appears to be built on top of Veo, not a replacement, so think of it as a big upgrade.
Google has been quietly building while others talked. If the leaked demos are close to what goes live, Gemini Omni could make AI video creation feel like something anyone can actually use. The stage is set for next week.

Most AI tools make you sit quietly and wait while they think. Mira Murati's new company thinks that's backwards. Thinking Machines just dropped a model that talks, listens, and processes all at once.

The Problem It Solves: Current AI waits for you to finish before it starts thinking. That turn-based delay forces users to phrase questions like emails, not conversations.
How It Works: The model runs in 200-millisecond micro-turns, processing audio, video, and text at the same time. It responds while still listening, just like a real person does.
The Speed Numbers: On the FD-bench interaction benchmark, it clocked in under 0.4 seconds. That beats Google's Gemini-flash-live at 0.57 seconds and GPT-realtime at 1.18 seconds.

This is Murati's first real move since leaving OpenAI, and it is a bold one. The model is currently in a limited research preview, with a broader public release planned for later this year. The waiting game, it seems, is almost over.
