OpenAI Launches GPT-5.4 With Computer Control:

  • Built for the Finance World: OpenAI embedded ChatGPT into Excel and Google Sheets for financial modeling. GPT-5.4 hit 87.5% on their internal spreadsheet benchmark, up from 68.4%.

  • Fewer Hallucinations, Better Outputs: GPT-5.4 makes 33% fewer false claims and 18% fewer errors overall. It uses significantly fewer tokens than its predecessor too.

GPT-5.4 shows that AI is graduating from assistant to operator. The benchmarks back that up, and so do the professionals already using it. Something fundamental about professional workflows is quietly about to change.

Anthropic Is Taking The Pentagon To Court:

Anthropic is gearing up for a courtroom showdown with the Pentagon after being tagged a supply-chain risk. CEO Dario Amodei insists the label is legally flawed. Meanwhile, OpenAI has stepped in to take Anthropic’s place.

  • The Dispute: The Pentagon labeled Anthropic a supply-chain risk, blocking contracts. CEO Dario Amodei argues the designation is legally shaky and unfairly penalizes the company’s AI work.

  • Anthropic’s Position: Amodei stressed Claude won’t power surveillance or weapons. He noted most customers remain unaffected since the designation applies only to direct Pentagon contracts.

  • Legal Challenge: Anthropic plans to contest the designation in court. Experts warn overturning national security decisions is tough, but Amodei believes less restrictive measures are legally required.

Courts rarely side against national security rulings, but Amodei seems ready to fight anyway. Anthropic still supports DOD operations even mid-dispute, which says a lot. The AI and government relationship is officially messy.

OpenAI Pushes Deeper Into Financial Services:

OpenAI just rolled out GPT-5.4, and it came with a whole bag of tricks for finance professionals. It builds spreadsheets, writes investment memos, and connects directly to FactSet. Anthropic is watching this very closely.
