ChatGPT-4o Returns as ChatGPT’s Default:
OpenAI has restored GPT-4o as the default model for all paying ChatGPT users. This move follows user backlash after GPT-5’s rocky debut. CEO Sam Altman promises future changes will come with clear advance notice.

Model Restoration: GPT-4o has been reinstated as the default for all paying ChatGPT users after being unexpectedly replaced by GPT-5. Users will now see a “show additional models” option to access it.
Emotional Backlash: The sudden shift to GPT-5 upset many because it lacked GPT-4o’s “warmth” and creative style. Some users described the change as losing a friend.

Sam Altman’s New Startup to Challenge Elon Musk:
Sam Altman is backing a new startup called Merge Labs to challenge Elon Musk’s Neuralink in brain-computer interfaces. The venture is valued at about $850 million and aims to raise $250 million. Altman will co-found but not manage day-to-day operations.
Things to Know:
Background & Purpose: Merge Labs will directly compete with Neuralink by developing advanced brain implants using AI-driven high-bandwidth interfaces. The goal is to merge human cognition with computer systems.
Founders & Funding: Altman is co-founding Merge alongside Alex Blania of World (an iris-scanning digital ID project). It seeks $250 million in funding, mostly from OpenAI’s ventures arm, at an $850 million valuation.
Altman’s Role & Strategy: Although Altman will co-found the company, he won’t be involved in daily leadership and may not invest personally. The venture is still in early-stage talks, and OpenAI’s participation isn’t set in stone.
This move intensifies Altman’s rivalry with Musk. Neuralink, valued at around $9 billion after raising $650 million, is already conducting human trials—Merge Labs now enters a highly competitive and politically charged space.
Apple Denies Bias Toward OpenAI:
Apple has officially responded to Elon Musk’s claims of favoritism toward OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Musk accused Apple of unfairly promoting ChatGPT over other AI apps. Apple denied the allegations, stating its App Store rankings are unbiased.
