Google’s Bard Transforms into Gemini:

Google’s Bard is evolving into Gemini, bringing with it a new Android app and advanced features. This transformation represents Google’s commitment to making AI accessible to everyone and is one of the biggest science and engineering efforts undertaken by the company.

The Details:

  • Rebranding Bard: Google Bard is being rebranded as Gemini, reflecting the name of the foundational model powering it. This rebranding is part of Google’s commitment to making AI accessible to everyone, everywhere in the world.

  • Gemini Advanced: Starting February 7, access to Gemini Advanced will be available. This paid product is built on Gemini Ultra, Google’s most capable model. It will expand with more features including expanded multi-modal capabilities, better coding support, and the ability to upload and more deeply analyze files, documents, data, and more.

  • Gemini Android App: Post-rebranding, Google Gemini will launch an Android app. This app is integrated with Google apps like Gmail, Maps, and YouTube, making it easy to get things done on your phone. You can interact with it through text, voice, or images.

Apple’s AI Image Editor is Here:

Apple has developed a new AI tool that can generate and edit images based on natural language descriptions. The tool, called MGIE, is open-source and can be used by anyone who wants to create realistic and diverse images.

The Details:

  • What is MGIE: MGIE stands for Multimodal Generative Image Editing. It is a deep learning model that can produce images from scratch or modify existing ones using text commands.

  • How does MGIE work: MGIE uses a combination of two techniques: generative adversarial networks (GANs) and transformers. GANs are models that can create realistic images by learning from a large dataset of real images. Transformers are models that can process natural language and understand the meaning and context of words. MGIE uses transformers to encode the text commands and GANs to decode them into images.

  • Why is MGIE important: MGIE is one of the first AI tools that can generate and edit images using natural language. This makes it easier and more intuitive for users to create and manipulate images without needing any technical skills or software. MGIE can also generate diverse and novel images that can be used for various purposes, such as art, education, entertainment, and research.

MGIE is a remarkable AI tool that demonstrates the power and potential of natural language image editing. It is a great example of how Apple is advancing the field of AI and making it more accessible and creative for everyone.

FCC Bans Robocalls with AI-Generated Voices:

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has issued a new rule that prohibits robocalls that use artificial intelligence (AI) to mimic human voices.

  • What is the new rule: The new rule states that any robocall that uses AI to create or modify a voice must clearly disclose at the beginning of the call that the voice is not human. The rule also requires that the caller must obtain the prior express consent of the recipient before making such a call.

  • Why is the rule necessary: The FCC says that the use of AI-generated voices poses a serious threat to consumers, as they can be used to trick people into believing that they are talking to a real person, and persuade them to reveal sensitive information or agree to fraudulent transactions.

  • How will the rule be enforced: The FCC says that it will monitor and investigate complaints of robocalls that violate the new rule, and take appropriate enforcement actions. The FCC also encourages consumers to report any suspicious or unwanted calls to the agency or to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

The new rule is part of the FCC’s ongoing efforts to crack down on robocalls, which are the number one source of consumer complaints to the agency. The FCC says that it will continue to pursue innovative and effective solutions to protect consumers from robocalls.
