Google Is Officially Scared of Claude Code:

Google just got a reality check from Anthropic, and it stings. Sergey Brin is personally involved in fixing Gemini's coding problem. That alone tells you everything about how serious this situation is.

Things to Know:

  • The Strike Team: Google DeepMind assembled a dedicated coding team after deciding Claude is beating Gemini at writing code. Sebastian Borgeaud, who previously led model pretraining at DeepMind, is heading the effort.

  • Brin's Memo: Brin wrote to DeepMind staff that the "final battleground in AI is agents." His message was direct: Google needs to close the gap in agentic execution before it's too late.

  • The Coding Gap: Anthropic already uses AI to write nearly all its internal code, while Google sits around the 50 percent mark. That gap is probably what got Brin's attention in the first place.

  • What's Next: Google wants to train models on its own internal codebase to boost performance. Bigger announcements on this front are expected at Google I/O very soon.

Google has the resources to fix this fast, and Brin being involved personally is not a small thing. But Anthropic has a real head start with Claude Code already being used inside companies. The next few months are going to be very, very interesting to watch.

QIMMA Sets New Standard For Arabic AI:

Arabic has 400 million speakers, yet AI benchmarks for the language were quietly full of errors. QIMMA showed up to fix that. It validated every benchmark before even running a single model on it.

Things to Know:

  • The Problem: Most Arabic AI benchmarks were translated from English and never properly checked. Cultural mismatches and wrong answers were hiding inside scores the whole time.

  • The Fix: QIMMA runs a two-model automated check, then sends flagged samples to native Arabic speakers for review. Nothing passes without earning it.

  • The Results: Jais-2-70B topped the leaderboard, with Qwen2.5-72B right behind it at just 0.06 points. Arabic-specialized models beat bigger multilingual ones in most domains.

  • The Coding Problem: Arabic-specialized models consistently struggled with coding tasks, scoring below 35 in that category. Multilingual models handled code much better, which is a real gap worth watching.

QIMMA covers 52,000 samples across seven domains, and it's the first Arabic leaderboard to include code evaluation. The full results and every per-sample output are publicly available. Arabic AI deserved this kind of honest report card a long time ago.

Huawei Takes on Meta With AI Glass:

Huawei showed up to the AI glasses party with a camera, a chip, and a price tag that Meta can't ignore. These aren't your grandpa's reading glasses. At $367, they're gunning straight for Ray-Ban Meta territory.

Things to Know:

  • The Hardware: The glasses weigh just 35.5 grams, pack a 12MP camera, and run on Huawei's own eyewear chip. Battery life hits 12 hours of general use, which beats most competitors right now.

  • The Features: Real-time translation across 20 languages, first-person live streaming, and QR-code payments are all built in. You can literally pay for lunch without touching your phone.

  • The Competition: Meta holds 85 percent of the global AI glasses market. But in China, where Meta doesn't sell, Xiaomi and Rokid have been winning, and Huawei wants that crown.

  • The Market: China's AI glasses shipments jumped 35-fold in 2025, hitting 950,000 units. Global shipments are forecast to cross 15 million units in 2026, so the timing here is not accidental.

This is Huawei's clearest move yet from audio-only eyewear into full AI wearables with a camera. The China market is wide open, and Huawei has the brand muscle to actually make a dent. The glasses race just got a lot more interesting.
