Anthropic Reverses the OpenClaw Agent Ban:
Back in April, Anthropic banned OpenClaw and similar third-party agents from tapping into Claude subscriptions. Six weeks later, the ban is being walked back. There is a catch, though, and it is a big one.
Things to Know:
What Changed Exactly: Anthropic is introducing a separate Agent SDK credit for all paid subscribers. It covers third-party tools like OpenClaw but runs on its own monthly budget.
The Catch You Should Know: These credits do not roll over. A Pro subscriber gets $20 worth monthly, Max gets up to $200. Use it or lose it, every single month.
Why the Ban Happened: Third-party agents like OpenClaw were consuming compute at rates far beyond what subscriptions were designed for. One active agent could quietly rack up thousands of dollars in API costs.
When This Actually Kicks In: The new Agent SDK credit system goes live on June 15, 2026. Until then, the current restrictions remain in place.
Anthropic is not handing out unlimited compute again. This is a compromise, and a calculated one. Power users who relied on OpenClaw as an always-on autonomous agent will now need to budget more carefully or move to the API entirely.
