Welcome back, AI enthusiast.
Beijing has officially stopped Meta from acquiring Manus, the Singapore-registered AI firm built in China.
Regulators say this case sets a precedent, and more crackdowns are in the pipeline. How far will China go to keep its AI companies at home?

China Blocks Meta’s Acquisition of Manus AI:

China officially blocked Meta from acquiring Manus, a buzzy AI startup. The country's top economic planner stepped in after months of review. Meta did not see this one coming quietly.
Things to Know:
The Deal That Never Was: Beijing ordered both sides to cancel the transaction. Manus is registered in Singapore but built in China.
Why China Said No: China reviewed the deal over export controls and tech transfer rules. This started back in January when regulators announced the probe.
What Lawyers Are Saying: A Shanghai lawyer called this a landmark case with more action ahead. Other startups like Moonshot AI may feel the heat next.
What It Means for Startups: Chinese AI startups with overseas registration are now on notice. Selling to a US company just got a lot more complicated.
China shut down Meta's attempt to buy Manus after months of regulatory review. The decision sends a clear signal to any Chinese AI startup thinking about a US exit. The walls around China's AI talent are getting taller by the day.
OpenAI Plans Custom AI Chips For Phones:

OpenAI is reportedly building a custom smartphone chip with Qualcomm and MediaTek. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo broke the news and the market already reacted hard. Qualcomm jumped 12% before the market even opened.
Things to Know:
What the Phone Would Actually Do: This is not a regular smartphone. OpenAI wants it to run AI agents continuously instead of traditional apps.
Who Is Building What: Qualcomm and MediaTek are co-developing the chip while Luxshare handles manufacturing. Specs and suppliers should be finalized by late 2026 or early 2027.
When to Expect It: Mass production is targeted for 2028, so this is not arriving tomorrow. OpenAI has not officially confirmed any of this yet.
Why OpenAI Wants the Hardware: Kuo says owning the OS and hardware is the only way to deliver a complete AI agent experience. OpenAI is eyeing the 300 to 400 million unit high-end smartphone market.
If this plays out, your next phone might come with a ChatGPT subscription instead of a SIM card plan. OpenAI is clearly tired of renting real estate on other people's hardware. Apple might want to take a long, hard look at its roadmap right about now.

Meta Launches Sapiens2 Vision Model:

Meta just released Sapiens2, a vision model that understands human bodies at jaw-dropping detail. It was trained on one billion human images and can see things cameras miss. Your body has never been this well understood by a machine.
Things to Know:
What Sapiens2 Actually Does: It handles pose estimation, body segmentation, surface normals, and albedo all at once. No other model this size pulls off all five tasks together.
How Good Are the Numbers: Sapiens2 cut surface normal error by 45.6% compared to the previous version. Body segmentation scores jumped by over 24 points in the same benchmark tests.
What Makes It Different: It runs at native 1K resolution with 4K support on larger variants. Models range from 0.4 billion to 5 billion parameters depending on your use case.
Where This Gets Useful: Think AR, virtual try-ons, game avatars, and film production pipelines. Anything that needs a machine to understand a real human in real conditions.
Sapiens2 is already beating models nearly 1.5 times its size on every single task it was tested on. Meta built a human specialist and it outperformed the generalists across the board. That is either impressive engineering or a very personal vendetta against DINOv3.

How to Run Multiple AI Coding Agents at Once:

If you use AI for coding, you already know the drill. Ask ChatGPT, not quite right. Try Claude, slightly better. Check Gemini, somewhere in between. You spend more time comparing outputs than actually building anything.
BLACKBOX AI is a coding platform that runs all the major AI agents simultaneously and automatically picks the best result for you. One input, one clean output, no manual comparison.
Here's how to get started:
Sign up and set up your workspace: Create a free account at blackbox.ai and work from the browser-based IDE or install the extension for VS Code, JetBrains, or 35+ other editors.
Describe your task in plain English: Type what you want to build or fix. BLACKBOX sends that task to multiple agents at once including its own model, Claude, Codex, and Gemini.
Let the Chairman LLM decide: A separate model reviews all the outputs and picks the best implementation automatically. You get one result instead of four tabs to compare.
Use the CLI if you prefer the terminal: Install the BLACKBOX CLI to generate code, debug errors, or set up entire projects without leaving your terminal.
Monitor in real time: Watch all agents work simultaneously from a single dashboard. Long-running tasks run in isolated sandboxes so your local machine stays clean.
For developers who use AI daily, having one tool do the comparison work in the background saves more time than you'd expect.
4x more context into every prompt. Zero extra effort.
You think faster than you type. Which means every typed prompt leaves out the constraints, examples, and edge cases that would have made the output actually useful.

Ribs of the Beast Glow Without Warning:

Prompt:
"A colossal skeletal dragon arches over a fog-covered battlefield, its ribcage emitting a faint emerald glow that casts jagged shadows into the abyss below. Thick mist writhes through hollow bones where wings once spread. The air feels heavy with ancient loss. Dark fantasy, cinematic lighting, photorealistic detail, wide-angle composition, muted tones with emerald accents."Try this prompt in any decent AI image generator and let me know your result.
