OpenAI Finally Fills the Missing Price Gap:
OpenAI just added a $100/month plan, slotting it right between the $20 Plus and $200 Pro tiers. That gap existed for a while, and people noticed. The new tier is built around one thing: Codex.
Things to Know:
Codex Is the Star: This plan is all about ChatGPT's coding tool. The $100 tier gives you 5x more Codex access than the $20 Plus plan.
The Claude Competition: OpenAI straight-up admitted this targets Anthropic. Claude has had a $100/month option for a while, and OpenAI wants a piece of that.
Codex Is Growing Fast: Over 3 million people use Codex weekly right now. That is a 5x jump in three months, with 70% month-over-month growth.
One Catch to Note: Higher limits are available through May 31 only. After that, expect the usual restrictions to kick back in.
The $200 plan still exists and gives 20x the Plus limits, but most developers were never going to pay that anyway. The $100 tier makes more sense for people who actually code daily.
Florida Is Going After OpenAI Hard:
Florida's Attorney General is now investigating OpenAI over claims that ChatGPT helped plan a deadly campus shooting last year. Two people died in that attack. This is not a good week to be Sam Altman.
Things to Know:
The Shooting Connection: Attorneys for a victim claim the FSU gunman used ChatGPT to plan the April 2025 attack. The victim's family is also suing OpenAI.
The AG's Response: Florida AG James Uthmeier called this out hard and said subpoenas are coming. He wants answers, and OpenAI is cooperating.
The Bigger Pattern: ChatGPT keeps showing up near violent incidents. Researchers are now flagging a real concern around AI reinforcing paranoid or delusional thinking in users.
OpenAI's Rough Week: The FSU probe is just one headache right now. A brutal New Yorker profile and a paused UK investment are also piling on at the same time.
OpenAI says it builds ChatGPT to understand intent and respond safely, and it will cooperate with the investigation. That sounds fine on paper, but the pattern of incidents keeps growing. At some point, "we're working on it" stops being enough of an answer.

The Existing Cyber Program: OpenAI already runs a "Trusted Access for Cyber" pilot giving select organizations access to more capable models for defensive security work.
The Bigger Picture: OpenAI also forecasts $102 billion in ad revenue by 2030, while currently sitting at $2.5 billion. Bold claims are clearly not in short supply over there.
OpenAI is very good at showing up wherever the attention is, whether or not the receipts are ready. The cybersecurity race between these two companies is getting interesting. Whether the tool actually delivers is a story for another day.
