Welcome back, AI enthusiast.
OpenAI has delayed its ChatGPT adult mode again, this time over age detection failures and internal safety warnings.

ChatGPT's Adult Mode Gets Delayed for Wild Reasons:

OpenAI's adult ChatGPT feature has been delayed a second time, and the reasons are far messier than "we need more time." Faulty age detection, internal warnings, and content moderation headaches are all in the mix.
Things to Know:
Text Only at Launch: OpenAI's adult mode will support explicit text chats but skip images, voice, and video entirely. They are calling it smut, not pornography. Subtle but intentional.
The Age Detection Problem: OpenAI's age prediction tool was misclassifying minors as adults roughly 12 percent of the time. With 100 million weekly users under 18, that is a serious number.
Advisers Raised Red Flags: An OpenAI advisory council warned the feature could reach children and breed unhealthy emotional dependence. One member reportedly called the risk a "sexy suicide coach."
The Competitor Gap: Grok already offers visual NSFW content, putting OpenAI behind on the explicit AI race. Sticking to text also conveniently helps them sidestep laws like the UK's Online Safety Act.
OpenAI still plans to launch the feature, just without a timeline. They are busy untangling age verification, content restrictions, and internal pushback all at once. Adulting, it turns out, is hard even for AI companies.

Meta Develops Tool To Spot AI Content:

OpenAI has a detector. Google has one too. Now Meta apparently wants in on the action. A new AI Detector feature was spotted hiding inside Meta AI's code, and it has people talking.
Things to Know:
Still Under Wraps: The AI Detector showed up in Meta AI's code but is completely inactive on the server side. Tapping the menu option just pulls up a broken link.
What It Might Do: The tool could flag AI-generated text, images, audio, or video, but none of that is confirmed yet. Speculation is doing most of the heavy lifting here.
One Very Big Question: It is unclear if the tool will flag content from all AI models or just Meta's. Google has a similar Gemini detector, and Meta seems to be following suit.
Meta has not officially confirmed any of this, so treat it as early noise for now. But a built-in AI detector inside a major social platform would be genuinely useful. Watch this space closely.
IBM Built a Tiny Model That Speaks Volumes:

IBM just released Granite 4.0 1B Speech, a compact model built for real-world speech recognition and translation. It is small by design, fast by intention, and apparently good enough to top a major leaderboard.
Things to Know:
Half the Size, Same Job: Granite 4.0 1B Speech has half the parameters of its predecessor while keeping full multilingual speech recognition intact. Smaller model, same ambitions, and somehow better English accuracy too.
Languages It Actually Covers: The model handles English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese for speech recognition and translation. It also supports English-to-Italian and English-to-Mandarin translation on top of that.
It Topped the Leaderboard: Granite 4.0 1B Speech ranked number one on the Open ASR leaderboard with an average word error rate of just 5.52. That is genuinely impressive for a model this size.
Free to Use and Deploy: The model ships under an Apache 2.0 license, meaning teams can deploy it without commercial restrictions. It runs on Transformers, vLLM, and even Apple Silicon through mlx-audio.
IBM did not try to build the biggest speech model. It built one of the most practical ones instead. Open weights, edge-ready, and multilingual out of the box. That counts for a lot.
