Sam Altman Faces Second Targeted Attack:
Sam Altman had a rough weekend that had nothing to do with GPT. His San Francisco home was hit twice in three days. First a Molotov cocktail, then a drive-by shooting.
Things to Know:
First Attack Was Ugly: A 20-year-old Texan allegedly threw a flaming bottle at Altman's gate on Friday. He was later arrested at OpenAI's headquarters after making threats there too.
The Shooter Came Back: Early Sunday, a Honda sedan drove past Altman's Russian Hill home and a passenger fired a shot. Two suspects were arrested shortly after, with three guns found at their residence.
The AI Anxiety Connection: The first attacker had posted on PauseAI's Discord, writing about fears of human extinction from AI. The group quickly distanced itself from the incident after news broke.
Altman Spoke Out: After the first attack, Altman wrote a blog post about fear and anxiety surrounding AI. He said he hoped the public post would stop anyone else from targeting his home.
Nobody was hurt in either incident, and OpenAI is assisting police with the ongoing investigation. Altman is now at the center of something much bigger than a product launch.
Britain Is Scared of Claude Mythos Preview:
Anthropic built an AI model so powerful it decided not to release it. Now Britain's banking sector and financial regulators are holding urgent meetings over it. This one moved fast.
Things to Know:
Too Dangerous to Ship: Anthropic says Claude Mythos Preview can find and exploit zero-day vulnerabilities in every major OS and browser. Some of those bugs are decades old and were previously undetected.
Britain Is Not Okay: The Bank of England, the Financial Conduct Authority, and His Majesty's Treasury are all involved. They plan to hold emergency discussions with the National Cyber Security Centre within the fortnight.
The Glasswing Angle: Anthropic framed the limited release as a warning through its "Project Glasswing" initiative. The goal is to alert stakeholders about what is coming, not to trigger a global panic.
Yann LeCun thinks the threat is overstated. Blogger Zvi Mowshowitz says Anthropic is mixing real concerns with hype. Nobody outside Anthropic has had access to verify any of it independently.

China Just Made AI Class Mandatory Nationwide:
China just made AI a core part of its national education system, from primary school all the way to university. Five government ministries signed off on it together. The goal is a fully built-out AI education system by 2030.
Things to Know:
Starting Young: AI courses will be added to primary and secondary school curricula across the country. After-school programs and hands-on activities are also part of the plan to extend learning beyond regular class hours.
Teachers Get an Upgrade Too: AI is being added to teacher qualification exams and certification requirements nationwide. Smart systems will handle grading, Q&A, and lesson prep to reduce workload and improve teaching quality.
University Is Not Off the Hook: At the college level, AI becomes a basic requirement for all students, not just tech majors. Universities are also being pushed to redesign programs around emerging industries and real-world AI applications.
China's 15th Five-Year Plan runs through 2030 and explicitly targets a leading position in AI applications. This education push is essentially the workforce pipeline being built to support that ambition.
